Many of us begin our singing development journey by trying to learn how to accomplish a very specific thing, such as to easily reach all the high notes.

We quickly find that singing is about much more than that.  It is about reaching the listener.  But before this happens we must reach ourselves.  Most Singers I meet with want the high notes to become easy ( and we definitely accomplish this ) but find that reaching the high notes doesn’t give them what they want.

.

Today is Saturday and I just finished up sessions with my Singers and marvelled at how far they have come.  Yes the high notes are now easy.   Way too easy for some… but how far they have come THEMSELVES.   These wonderful Singers are wonderful people.  And they are learning how to connect more and more deeply with themselves and those around them.

.

I am super proud of them and because vocal tones and sounds they are achieving are the vocal sounds that listeners want to hear… because they make you  feel good. And they are able to make you feel good because THESE SINGERS FEEL WONDERFUL ABOUT THEMSELVES. 

.

And feeling good and expressing this is what both Singers and listeners really want.

.

And we can all learn to give this to them, and ourselves.

.

The journey of Singing is truly a journey of Self-Mastery.  And that is one of the reasons we love it so much.

I’ve been on this journey of vocal develepment for more than 25 years.

The more I learn about Singing and Vocal Development the more I learn there is to learn.

Yes we accomplish our goals, and I’ve accomplished ALL of my singing goals.  But the more I master the more I HEAR.  When you hear more you discover new and deeper ways to move the listener.

And moving the listener is EVERYTHING.  How we feel when we sing is foremost.  And moving the listener to make her feel the way she wishes to feel, or learns a NEW way to feel, is everything in singing.

Once when we realize that we will be on this road of personal discovery our entire lives.

There is no pot of gold, no lottery or panel of judges that will say ‘YOU”VE ARRIVED and NOW you can be happy’.  This might be a disappointment to some, who want to have something like happiness given to them, but for most of us we find a blessing.

A never-ending journey such as singing is a blessing because it means we can always grow.  And when we grow from a patient, happy place of fulfillment NOW, we are happy just BEING on the journey.

Let’s stop looking to the future for meaning and contentment.  Love your voice, your life and those around you.  And your voice will grow faster than it ever has.  But it won’t give you what you didn’t already have…peace, joy and contentment.

This is my wish for you, to discover and sing from this place of harmony and peace.
