The following tips have been found to be most helpful to many
Toronto Singers taking personal singing lessons:
.
1. Record your lesson
Using your camera, cell phone or mp3 voice recorder.
Video recording is a great way to do this. Most people these days
have small inexpensive cameras which can record video as well.
You can get used ones a few years old for $50 on craigslist.
Another great option is recording voice only. However watching
is very instructive. But no matter how you record it, just record it
taking notes the very same day or the next day so you can use them
in your practice to make it most effective.
.
Tips:
~ Use the settings which make the file size small, you don’t
need the highest quality
~ Clear enough memory to record 45 minutes
~ Create a habit of charging up the battery the night before your lesson
~ Save your session on your computer
~ Create notes in a word document from the video immediately
after the lesson ( within 24 hours is best )
~ In your notes write down exactly the time and filename
of each exercise and example so you can reference it later
~ using these notes along with the video/audio when you practice saves time and makes your session more effective
.
.
.
2. Skype ( or Phone In ) For Your Lesson
There will be days you don’t feel well, are out of town or just
cannot make it in to your lesson.
More and more Singers today are enjoying the benefits of using Skype
( or phone ) for their singing lessons.
.
Tips:
~ it is advantageous to find a way to record the lesson audio for your skype lesson
~ you may also use a regular phone for audio while using Skype for the video
~ some Singers find it beneficial to place a speaker phone ( set on mute ) in another
room to record the lesson audio, which frees them up to use a handheld or other device
~ there are many ways to do this
.
IMPORTANT: If you wish to Skype or phone in for your lesson
please call to let us know a few days ahead, or at a minimum a few hours ahead
so we can prepare for your call.

3. Practice/Discover At Least 45 Minutes Daily
.
The more we experience the freedom of the singing techniques we learn in our lessons, the more free our singing voices become. And the richer, more fulfilling and more fun our singing experience is.
.
The Singers who apply their lesson material for at least 45 minutes daily by far grow the best. Realize that creating MOMENTUM, by doing it every day, is the key. To create momentum do a little each day even 10 minutes to start and after enjoying it you will want to increase them time. Optimally you can do 15 minutes many times through the day to achieve vocal freedom. You’ll find it feels great and is a lot of fun.
.
4. Leave Extra Time To Arrive Feeling Relaxed
.
It is most fun to feel relaxed before your lesson, the most relaxed Singers are usually the ones who leave early in order to arrive at their lesson a few minutes ahead of schedule.
.
5. Plan Ahead For Your Singing Success
.
It probably won’t be a surprise to anyone that Singers achieve their greatest breakthroughs and freedom in their singing voices when they are consistent in their lessons.
.
There are times, however when lessons need to be rescheduled.
.
To assist other Singers like yourself please remember to give many days notice ( 7-15 days is best ) if you ever need to reschedule your lesson. This way it gives enough time to find you another time for that week while allowing ample time for someone else to have your spot.
.
Giving notice very early ( many days or weeks ) makes it easiest for everyone to find the perfect lesson time.
.
IMPORTANT: Please remember that a minimum of 48 hours notice is required ( not 47 hours but 48 ) if you cannot make a lesson, however even 48 hours still doesn’t leave enough time for your spot to be used by someone else. So please consider calling many days ahead to make things flow for everyone.
.
Tip: Many Singers find Skype or phone to be very convenient when out of town or if lesson timing is a concern.
.
I hope you find these learning tips beneficial. Have a great week.
